Mixed Bag of Nuts

This is my fancy way of saying we have a mishmashed podcast! Please join us as we cover a few things before Mac flees the country for a mini-photo trek!

Switch to Manual

The awesome chaps from the STM podcast have recently celebrated their first year of podcasting! If you haven’t checked them out yet, please give them a listen, subscribe and even high five! Huge congrats to your first year, Tom and Antonio!

Insurance, Yo!

We chat about some insurance woes and tips for your valuable gear in order to be proactive and prepared for the unexpected.

Workflow, Yup.

Adobe, we are talking to you. Again. The struggle is still very real for many photographers, so Mac goes through some of the well documented Lightroom issues and more importantly, the alternatives available for photographers.

New York, New York!

Shutter Time hits NYC. Well, only the male half is.  We briefly cover his upcoming NYC trip!

Episode 84 »» Photography Backlog

We discuss a number of topics in episode 84, such as traveling light w/ your gear, photography backlog, as well as answering a couple of Twitter questions! Batshite Crazy Sale in Zeissland

We talk about a crazy sale going on with Zeiss Touit E and X mount lenses (12mm and 32mm), but the pages for the sale at The Camera Store have been taken down and instead of August, it looks like it ended June 6th, 2014. Boo. Sorry, folks – we don’t know what the issue was, but at the time of this post, prices are back to normal. It looks like the sale might still be on at B&H. Shop at your own risk, ha! Hopefully if you were in the market, you were able to snag a lens or two at the killer price.

Tweet Tweet

We answer a couple of Twitter questions on processing and gear choices. Huge thanks to the two Davids for the tweets / DMs. Hopefully we’ve answered your questions!

Traveling Light

Mac updates us on his travel adventures with his mirrorless system! Who are we kidding? We know it’s Fuji, riiiight!

Challenge Overkill?

An article from one of the greatest Canadian landscape photographers, Darwin Wiggett, left us scratching our big ol’ noggins. We discuss his decision to join his partner’s kill-the-clutter challenge with regards to their massive backlog of unprocessed images. I’d guess most photographers one time or the other find themselves in a quandary with faced with photography backlog, but how many have the confidence to set a deadline to catch up and then delete the images which have been left untouched? Please have a listen as we go back and forth over Darwin’s blog post.

Bits n’ Bites

How do you travel light when it comes to your photography? Do you have any tips or tricks for doing so? Please share the wealth with your fellow listeners! Do you think we should care when other photographers make a decision about their photography? And why do we care? Should the impact matter at all? How do you handle your photography backlog? Have you ever made such a bold decision as we discussed on the show? Oh, the questions.

Episode 56 »» Creative Cloud & Mac’s Starbucks Chat

Episode 56, shutter time with sid and mac, podcast, yegphotoAdobe

Before we launch Mac’s Starbucks chat with our Shutter Time friend, Alan Schietzsch, we of course contribute to the buzz of all things Adobe. In the past week, they’ve made a number of photographers very happy while ruffing the feathers of many more. It’s no secret there will be no CS7 (dry your eyes) and instead, have thrown their photoshop goodness up in a cloud and we just need to fork over the cash for a subscription to access said goodness. A good business move by Adobe or sneaky step? Tune in and hear what we think.

Mmmm … Starbucks

Mac decided to leave the ol’ Shutter Time bunker and venture off for a good ol’ fashioned photography chat with one of our listeners, Alan. Because they chatted at Starbucks, you get the noise of a hopping cafe, but if you can get past it, you will find a great photo conversation between two artists. Better yet, have a listen to their chat as you drive to Starbucks! Thanks again, Alan, for continuing to listen to our rambles and offering us your feedback and being a great friend to the show.

Bits n’ Bites

What are your thoughts about Adobe’s latest announcement? Will you be subscribing to the cloud if you aren’t already using it? Will this impact your workflow or are you like me and it won’t have any impact? We’d love to hear your thoughts, so please chime in! What did you think about the Starbucks chat between the boys? Do you also have that struggle with finding a story when making an image? Please drop us a line! You can find us on TwitterFacebookGoogle Plus, via Stitcher and of course, you can subscribe for free on iTunes!

Thanks for tuning in, y’all!

Cheers

Episode 53 ~ It’s A Post-Processing World

Episode 53 ~ It’s A Post-Processing World

And we’re just living in it …

Episode 53 ~ It's A Post Processing World, shutter time with sid and mac, photography podcast, yegphoto

For Free, Y’all!

We take a look at some of the resources available via photographers who offer their knowledge and insights to making the photography business work for them ….for free. Soaking up the goodness from other photographers is a highly valuable tool to utilize as you build your business and / or nurture your talent. Massive props and many thanks to those incredible working photographers who do so willingly. It won’t be too much of a surprise whose site I flock to the most!

Editing Whiz

The digital world has made post-processing much easier to stretch your creative mind. The question is, have we gone too far with editing our images these days? Is there such a thing as too much processing in post? With all the software available (yeah, we’re talking to you, Nik by Google!), it’s hard to keep up, but it also gives us that much more to work with. Should we even be editing at all, or always get it 100% right in-camera? We discuss different aspects of post-processing and debate where we think it belongs in today’s photography world.

Bits n’ Bites

Calling all purists — if you feel editing should never be done in post and the workflow basically stops once you press the shutter button, please chime in and share why you are not a fan of editing! To those who have a post-processing workflow, what software do you prefer to use? Do you love editing images or are you more the fly-by the seat of your pants editor and the quicker it’s done, the better? Getting back to photography resources, do you have your own personal go-to site / photographer? Please share the wealth!

Keeping It Social

You know we’re chilling over at Google Plus these days (though we’re kind of quiet of late, oops!), our lil’ Google Plus community, Facebook, Twitter, and of course, you can subscribe for free via iTunes!  If you have the Stitcher App, you can also find us there!

Thanks as always for tuning in, folks!

Cheers, y’all!

Episode 29 ~ Backing Up Life Changes

Episode 29 ~ Backing Up Life Changes

Mixed Bag o’ Nuts

After a couple weeks of back to back interviews, we thought since there was no big photography news, we’d chew over a few things on our photo plate. In this bag of nuts, we discuss more gear woes (emo style?), Lightroom 4 updates, as well as run through some iPad photography magazines and introducing backup / storage options into your workflow.

Bits ‘n Bites:

If you haven’t subscribed for free to Shutter Time on iTunes, what’cha waiting for? Please subscribe and let us know what you think! If there are any topics you’d like us to discuss on the show, drop us a note and we’ll see what we can do! We’re also on Twitter and Google Plus, so come say howdy!

Thanks as always for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!
