F is for Fuji

At times, you just need to chat about gear! Fujifilm has announced their latest body, the Fujifilm X-T100. It’s small, relatively inexpensive and isn’t part of their X-Trans sensor lineup, which should make some Lightroom users happy.

One Word.

Intrigued by a short and simple article from Moose Peterson where he challenges us to think of the one word that may make or break an image, we took to the mics to discuss this in depth, focusing on the distractions in our visual communication. Please join us as we talk about the new Fuji camera, Moose’s article and more!

Episode 59 »» The Neighbors or Peeping Toms?

Before we get a little creeptastic and touch on intrusive photography … we get to some FYI goodness and updates ….

shutter time with sid and mac, shutter time, podcast, photography, 2013, yegphotoshutter time with sid and mac, shutter time, podcast, photography, 2013, yegphoto

Moose Press, Yo!

That’s right, folks … Moose Peterson has provided us with some more treats, this time in iBook version. Have a listen as we give you the FYI on this latest Moose resource! Update: Moose kindly informed us the additional updates to this book, like the book itself, Photography FUNdamentals, will be free! Cheers, Moose!

Still Fujilicious

As current and former owners of the Fuji X-Pro 1, we are still talking about this gem of a camera, so our ears perk up whenever there is a juicy rumour floating around. We briefly touch on what’s possibly around the corner …. tune in to see if this is really juicy or not!

In This Corner

You guessed it … we don our boxing gloves and jump in the ring for another discussion — heated at times — over the blurred line of right and wrong of intrusive photography. Perhaps this isn’t the right term, but to quickly break it down before you tune in: photographers using their telephoto lenses to peek in your homes, taking photos of your routine, labelling them as art and selling these images in galleries or books, etc. We cover this and more, so please tune in and check it out!

Bits n’ Bites

Do you have any great resources for photographers you might want to share? Perhaps you know of some hidden and not so hidden gems on the net. Please link us up and share the wealth! Right or wrong — we’d love to know your thoughts on the debate we had tonight. It’s a slippery slope in the eyes of many, so please chime in!

Keeping it Social

Episode 53 ~ It’s A Post-Processing World

Episode 53 ~ It’s A Post-Processing World

And we’re just living in it …

Episode 53 ~ It's A Post Processing World, shutter time with sid and mac, photography podcast, yegphoto

For Free, Y’all!

We take a look at some of the resources available via photographers who offer their knowledge and insights to making the photography business work for them ….for free. Soaking up the goodness from other photographers is a highly valuable tool to utilize as you build your business and / or nurture your talent. Massive props and many thanks to those incredible working photographers who do so willingly. It won’t be too much of a surprise whose site I flock to the most!

Editing Whiz

The digital world has made post-processing much easier to stretch your creative mind. The question is, have we gone too far with editing our images these days? Is there such a thing as too much processing in post? With all the software available (yeah, we’re talking to you, Nik by Google!), it’s hard to keep up, but it also gives us that much more to work with. Should we even be editing at all, or always get it 100% right in-camera? We discuss different aspects of post-processing and debate where we think it belongs in today’s photography world.

Bits n’ Bites

Calling all purists — if you feel editing should never be done in post and the workflow basically stops once you press the shutter button, please chime in and share why you are not a fan of editing! To those who have a post-processing workflow, what software do you prefer to use? Do you love editing images or are you more the fly-by the seat of your pants editor and the quicker it’s done, the better? Getting back to photography resources, do you have your own personal go-to site / photographer? Please share the wealth!

Keeping It Social

You know we’re chilling over at Google Plus these days (though we’re kind of quiet of late, oops!), our lil’ Google Plus community, Facebook, Twitter, and of course, you can subscribe for free via iTunes!  If you have the Stitcher App, you can also find us there!

Thanks as always for tuning in, folks!

Cheers, y’all!

Episode 46 ~ Year End Reflections, 2012

Episode 46 ~ Year End Reflections, 2012, reflections, Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, camera apps, photography, shutter time with sid and mac, podcast, yegphotoThe End Is Near

The year end, that is! We took to our mics for one last time in 2012 to discuss and reflect on what we have learned this year from having our podcast, why we still have fun recording, etc. But before we get to sitting back with some Christmas cheer induced beverages, we dive in the Instagram debate of late …

Oh No, They Didn’t!

Even though by the time this podcast hits the ol’ internets, the news will be a little old, it’s still being talked about and for good reason. Instagram (Facebook) shocked many photographers and those in and around the industry alike by revising their TOS (terms of service), which implied they would be able to sell your images to advertisers without your consent or knowledge. I know, right? We chew over what the hell they were thinking and the revisions to the revision (ha!) that have taken place due to some strong ass backlash. Have a listen and please let us know what you think about this!

Flickr, You Dead Sexy Thing

Perfect timing on Flickr’s part, but they have done something with their aging app, causing many toes to curl and even tingle.

Ooh, Growth

We reflect over our last year of podcasting and how it has changed us. ‘Nuff said, right? Please tune in and allow us to indulge in more self absorbed chatter. Sort of.

Our Internet Homes

As always, you can find us on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and of course, you can subscribe for free on iTunes!

A Couple More Notes

We can’t thank you enough for continuing to tune in to our little podcast. It means more to us than you can probably imagine. You’re all fantastic and we couldn’t do this without you.

We forgot to mention this on the show (oh, bugger), but of course, we cannot forget our wonderful friends and guests for sitting down with us for interviews and having a good ol’ photography chat! Thank you so much for participating in the show. Our brilliant and super talented guests have been:

Episode 35 ~ Moose Musings: Interview With Moose Peterson

Episode 35 ~ Moose Musings: Interview With Moose Peterson

Alaskan Moose by Moose Peterson

Moose Peterson, Y’all!

We did it. We had wildlife / aviation photographer, Moose Peterson, visit the Shutter Time bunker for a chat. Seriously. Moose Peterson. Our listeners are well aware of my appreciation for Moose and not only his photography, but his dedication to preserving our wild heritage, which is so important to us all. Imagine my delight when he so graciously agreed to give us a couple hours of his time and have a chat about all things photography and wildlife. Even though we (okay, mostly me) were tongue-tied throughout much of the interview and stumbled a few times, his words were able to trump any of those moments. I’m not alone in my admiration, as Mac jumped on board as well after this interview. Moose is just that good; even boudoir, portrait and all other photographers will learn something from this podcast.

Oh. Murphy.

I’ve been waiting a long time for this moment …. Mac and I have recorded dozens of shows and for the first time, we experienced sheer recording failure on 2/3 computers. Murphy and his law patiently waited, stalked and then pounced the moment we heard Moose say, “howdy folks!” Bear with us, as the audio isn’t at our usual best, but I’m thinking you will probably become lost in the interview and not even notice. Even Murphy’s Law couldn’t stop us, yo!

Bits ‘n Bites

This is not the time to be shy, y’all! What did you think of our chat with Moose? Did his words and passion resonate with you and how you view your photography? Are you a wildlife photographer or wildlife conservationist? Do tell! We’d love your feedback.

As always, you can find us hanging around the web, such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and of course, iTunes, where you can subscribe to the show for free.

Thanks again to Moose for chilling with us, teaching us a few things and spreading the good word of photography. It was brilliant.

Thanks for tuning in, folks!

Cheers, y’all!
