Fuji @ PhotoPlus NYC

As we previously discussed in episode 118, an announcement was expected from the Fuji camp for a new lens and TC. Fujifilm has since officially announced said new lens and 1.4x teleconverter. One of the fujirumors.com users is at PhotoPlus and had a chance to get a hands on perspective of the two new items. Check out the quick report!

Story Time with an Edmonton Fan Favourite

84 year old Wally Franiel from Classic Camera Exchange in Edmonton, Alberta, is a living legend for analog photographers, some could say. Mac dropped by the unique shop last week for a chat with a man who has seen it all. We definitely encourage you to listen to the bonus story-time moment between Wally and Mac at the end of the show. Enjoy the interview!

Shutter Time mate and fellow Albertan, Mark Reierson, joined us for a chat about his 100 Strangers Project. He shares with us the challenges of taking on such a project, the rewards and what lessons he has learned. He also discusses the true power of a photograph – something he recently discovered after photographing one of his downtown Calgary strangers. We also convinced Mark to let us in on a student’s perspective from The Arcanum, Trey Ratcliff’s Magical Academy of Artistic Mastery (their words, not mine!). Kick back and have a listen as we listen to this hella charming photographer! All photos on this post are courtesy of Mark Reierson!

Fuji Rant

Yes, it happens…sometimes they’re not everything we make them out to be. Fujifilm North America has rolled out a new rental program for their X Series gear. But silly Canadians, don’t be getting all excited, because two Fuji employees made sure to let me know Canada does their own thing and has no part of North America. Hurt bunny feelings aside, it sounds like a great program if you’re American!

Hella Expense Squeaky Toy

Totally pasting this from the last episode, ha: One of our Shutter Time pals, Darcy Evans, a local photographer specializing in pet photography is raising funds to cover the surgery costs for his puppychow, Samantha. He is offering limited edition prints of a shoot he did inspired by the well known Coolidge paintings(dogs playing poker)! Check out his YouTube video showing the behind the scenes of this shoot. Wishing Samantha a speedy recovery!

Keep on Truckin’

We sit down with one of our newer listeners, Steve Graham, and chat about all things photography. He gets down to business and dishes his experience on workshops (in person and online), podcasts and other online formats, which well known photographer he truly relates with, his struggles and hopes with his craft and more! Not gonna lie, folks – it’s a long chat, but it’s good because it’s completely genuine and comes from someone who is not only engaging, but has obvious passion for his craft. Well worth the listen, I say!

Poet, Actor, Director, Songwriter, Vulcan and Photographer

The world lost a wonderful photographer this week, Leonard Nimoy. Most knew him as an actor, but in addition to other forms of creativity, he was also an established and talented photographer.  If you haven’t already, make sure to check out his work. Scott Bourne also posted a tribute to Nimoy on Photofocus, also worth a read.

Shutter Time High

After following his career on the show for the last couple of years, we were thrilled when Jake Peterson agreed to come on the show. He’s a big time wildlife, landscape and aviation photographer with a unique background, which led him to where he is today. Jake brings a fresh, yet sharp perspective to photography today and has a lot of interesting experiences and stories to tell. Luckily for us, he shares some of the wealth with us on the show.

Wildlife … landscapes … aviation … business … and passion … we cover it all!

This is Jake’s first podcast, so we were a wee gentle on him … sort of! Sit back, friends, relax and enjoy this great episode with Jake! You will learn a ton from this incredibly talented photographer and I bet you just might end up with a new appreciation for our wild heritage and see aviation history in a new light after the show.

Bits ‘n Bites

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the show! Btw, the images in the post are courtesy of Jake, so please make sure to check out his work. As always, you can subscribe for free to the show via iTunes and the Stitcher app. We’re always on FacebookTwitter and Google Plus. Join the convo and chime in!

Thanks again, Jake. It was a slice to have you on the show!
