Episode 214 »» Fresh Gear and 7 Years of Shutter Time

Antonio M. Rosario

Massive thanks and props to our great friend, Antonio, for pitching in last minute and spending 5 weeks co-hosting Shutter Time with our Mac. He has done a wonderful job and the time he spent helping us out can never fully be paid back. Podcasting takes a lot of time and effort and he answered the call without hesitation. Please make sure to check him out on Twitter, and also listen to his fabulous podcast, Street Shots, if you have yet to do so.

Holy Gear, Batman!

Fujifilm, Hasselblad, Leica, oh my! September 2018 has been a heavy gear month, largely due to Photokina, and if feels like the announcements keep coming.

Super Software?

Phase One and their Capture One software now supports Fujifilm. If you are a Fuji user, does this news entice you to give Capture One a try if you have not done so? Have you tested out the 2018 Nik software released this summer? If so, what are your thoughts on the upgrade?

7 Years

Ooh, that is a whole lot of Sid and Mac. Please join us as we have some fresh gear chat and also talk about our journey over the last 7 years of doing this podcast and the power of photographers sharing their stories.

Join the Convo

We would love to hear your thoughts on the show! Are you interested in any of the gear recently announced? If so, which bodies and/or glass? You can chime in and find us on here on the blog and on Twitter. You can also subscribe to the show for free via Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and iHeartRADIO. If you would like to support the show and help with some of the costs of running this podcast, please check us out on Patreon (any support is appreciated!).

Thanks so much for tuning in for the past 7 years and 200 plus episodes. We appreciate your support time and time again and wouldn’t be having so much fun if it wasn’t for all of our listeners and guests.

Cheers, y’all!

Coming Home

Nope, it’s not some emotional photography story that will tear at your heartstrings. Rather, Mac just realized the right inventory management/post processor was in right front of him all along. Cya later, Capture One.

F-F-Fuji.

The long anticipated Fujifilm X-T2 was announced and though it’s not even available in stores yet, photographers are jumping at it. Does it have what it takes to be Fuji’s best mirrorless body yet? We quickly dish about the latest body to hit the scene and quite possibly, your wallet.

Composite, You Say?

Mac listened to a podcast which got his camera straps all tied up in a knot and we thought we’d talk about composites and in the process, revisiting landscapes and dare we say it, wildlife? Join us as we discuss this topic and wonder what responsibility the photographer has to their viewing audience when it comes to our work.

Join the Convo

Is the Fuji X-T2 on your radar? If not, is there another brand and/or body you’ve been waiting to add to your lineup? Which one? What are your thoughts about composite photography, especially with landscapes and wildlife? Do you feel the photographer should be honest upfront with how the image was made/processed? We’d love to hear your thoughts! You can find us Bookface and Twitter! You can also subscribe free via iTunes and Stitcher.

Thanks as always for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!

Mac’s 2015 defining photograph.

He’s Baaaaaack

It’s been several weeks and we missed him too much, so we convinced our good pal, Dom, to visit us again as we sort out all the excitement from the Fuji camp.

We Shoot Fuji Podcast

Our friend, Marco Larousse, and his podcast co-host, Scott Bourne, made a special announcement on episode 17. If you’re a fan of the show, make sure to listen to the episode if you haven’t already for the full update. We wish them the best of luck as they move their show in a new direction with Photofocus.

Those Defining Photos

We followed up from episode 125 about the defining images we made in 2015 as well as those made from others which impacted us in some fashion throughout the year.

F is for Fuji

It’s Fuji time again. But this time, let’s blame Fujifilm directly for getting us all riled up. Haha. The rumours have been circulating for 3.5 years … true story. Then it was confirmed by Fujifilm they would be making some heavy announcements on January 15th as they celebrated their 5 years of their X Series lineup of bodies and lenses alike. Then they started to tease us with a countdown clock on the X-Pro 1 site,  Finally the clock struck and the live stream event took place. 60 official X Photographers around the globe travelled to Tokyo to partake in the celebrations.

Please join us as we roundup the latest announcements from Fujifilm, the X-Pro 2, XF 100-400mm ƒ4.5-5.6 and more!

Make sure to check out all the goodness – news, updates, reviews, videos and more on twitter:  We will also link up at the end of the post some of the hands on reviews that were coming in as the live event was going on.

Are you a current X shooter? If so, what do you think of the announcement and latest soon-to-be released gear? Did the X-Pro 2 or one of the other bodies grab your attention? If you’re not sporting the Fuji brand now, are you considering making the switch? What about other mirrorless brands – which ones are on your radar if at all? We’d still love to hear about your defining photographs and/or moments of 2015. You can find us on here on the blog, BookFace or Twitter. Of course you can subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher.

Thanks again to Dominick for joining us again tonight. Please make sure to check out his work on Flickr and 500px!

Thanks for tuning in and making it this far in this Fuji-heavy episode. Much appreciated as always!

Cheers, y’all!

As we previously discussed in episode 118, an announcement was expected from the Fuji camp for a new lens and TC. Fujifilm has since officially announced said new lens and 1.4x teleconverter. One of the fujirumors.com users is at PhotoPlus and had a chance to get a hands on perspective of the two new items. Check out the quick report!

Story Time with an Edmonton Fan Favourite

84 year old Wally Franiel from Classic Camera Exchange in Edmonton, Alberta, is a living legend for analog photographers, some could say. Mac dropped by the unique shop last week for a chat with a man who has seen it all. We definitely encourage you to listen to the bonus story-time moment between Wally and Mac at the end of the show. Enjoy the interview!
