Kasia and Olaf

Although Kasia and Olaf primarily photograph landscapes, they don’t shy from other genres of photography.  A very versatile Fuji couple.  We had a great time chatting with them, even though Sid could not make it to the show.

Lots of great tips on being or not being a Fuji X-Photographer, and how to be more selective with your images.  How to work together using and sharing one camera system, yet still create great images.

I think you will enjoy it, even though part of the show is actually in Polish 🙂

Thanks as always for tuning in!

Reunited and It Feels So Good

Ah, Mac and Dom are together again.  The photo bromance of the year is brewing once again and this time, I’m joining them for a good ol’ fashioned chat about gear and other photo goodness. Uncle Murphy tried like hell to stop us, but we made it through the recording! Huzzah!

Workflow … Revisited. Again.

Ah, the never ending quest to simplify one’s workflow never seems to end. Mac updates us on his new found fling with Capture One. Tune in to see how it’s going and what he likes about it!

Ansel, Is That You?

Everyone is talking about the intriguing photography job posting (now closed) from the Department of Interior. We quickly dish on it, but pretty much are just waiting to see who snags this highly coveted position.

Mmmm … Gear

With all the gear chat, rumours, hints of mirrorless this and medium format that, Dom suggested we get together to discuss some of the rumours and whether or not these anticipated announcements of new bodies are really necessary. Please tune in as we have a casual chat about the state of our gear, updates, firmware and more!

Thanks again to Dom for the topic suggestion, chat and great time! Please make sure to take a moment and check out his beautiful work!

Episode 118 »» Trophy Hunting with Your Holga Digital?

Shutter Time with Sid and Mac photography podcast, Episode 118 »» Trophy Hunting with Your Holga Digital?

Mmmm …. Fresh Gear

We briefly cover more rumours coming from the Fuji world and the teaser coming straight from the Pentax camp themselves: a full frame body is expected 2016.

Holga 2.0?

You guessed it. Remember the ol’ 120 film Holga cameras many of us used to have or still do? They were cheap, somewhat fun to tinker with, garnered a loyal following and inspired a number of Holga Film Friday blogs. It turns out the love has never left, as there are well over two thousand backers kicking in their hard earned bucks to bring us the Holga Digital.  Check out the Kickstarter for yourself!

Trophy Hunting – Revisited

With the announcement of the new Holga, we remembered there was something even crazier out there – enter the prototype, the Camera Restricta. You guessed it – the idea behind this is to restrict photographers around the globe from taking those same trophy shots we all see and do ourselves. So it begged the question we’ve all asked in the past – should we continue to make images at the most popular locations? Please join us as we revisit this topic.

How do you feel about the new Holga coming out? Could you see yourself buying one or will you continue to rock your film one? What are your thoughts on the FF Pentax teaser – is this something you are interested in? Making images at iconic locations – do you practice  this? Why or why not? You can find us at Facebook and Twitter to keep the conversation flowing! As always, you can subscribe for free via iTunes or check us out via the Stitcher app!

Thanks as always for tuning in, folks!

Cheers, y’all!

Episode 107 »» Lightroom and Fanboyism Lightroom Something or the Other

Ahh, finally after months of speculation and a missed rumoured March release date, Adobe finally gave it up and released Lightroom CC or Lightroom 6 standalone for those not wanting to play in the creative cloud. Buyer beware – if you purchase LR 6, you’re not going to get all the goodness moving forward. Join us as we cover the changes!

Fanboys United

Most of us are called fanboys at one time or the other, be it for our preference with auto manufactures, smart phones, computers – the list goes on. Photography is one of the most intense fanboy debates, the classic being Nikon vs. Canon. Since this topic was brewing deep within Mac’s noggin as well as suggested this week by one of our kickin’ listeners, Mark, we thought we’d take to the mics and figure this one out – can this be a crutch for our photography? Hmm …

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the new Lightroom updates – thumbs up or down? What do you think about camera gear fanboys? Should we even care anymore – why or why not? Thanks as always for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!

Mmmm … Fresh Gear

Ahhh, the wait is over. It’s no secret there have been some big announcements from a few camera manufactures this past week. The anticipation factor was quite high for Canon and Fuji particularly. Nice to see Canon back in the game as many of us were starting to wonder … We break down the bigger announcements as we kick off the show.

Udo!

We had a wee contest to celebrate 100 episodes with the winner receiving a couple of Shutter Time prints! Mac’s son drew the winning entry, so congrats to Udo! Thanks to all who entered the contest to win a print! Udo, we shall be in touch! Yay!

Finding Your Soul

I think every landscape photographer has one time or the other questioned their work and whether their image has any soul. Isn’t that the goal of every photographer and in particular, the landscape photographer? An article from photographer, Ugo Cei, about his thoughts on the lack of soul in landscape photography today sparked not only a fair bit of discussion, but also touched some nerves. We tackle this topic and try to understand what has happened with landscape photography, should we be concerned and what to do about it. There are a couple of hundred of comments scattered on several blogs and we suggest you check them out. A lot of folks have some great insight into this topic. One of my favourite comments by far is from photographer John Oro … Since the link to his comment will not work, I’ve included a screen capture of his response.

Are y’all excited about any of the fresh gear announced from Olympus, Canon or Fuji? What are your thoughts about the 50MP Canon body – is this really necessary? Would the full frame + 1.3 an 1.6 crop capabilities make this body appealing to you? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the gear announcements and of course, the landscape photography debate!  Thanks again for all the continued interaction – it’s so appreciated, y’all. You can find us on Bookface, Twitter, G+ (hahaha, I know I know), and of course you can find us on iTunes and the ol’ Stitcher App. Oh, and big thanks to Gavin for the great messages!

Thanks for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!
