Only dust and windShutter Time goes family

So today episode was recorded with my lovely wife, because Sid was abducted by aliens.  Hopefully Sid will be back on the next exciting episode of Shutter Time.

Canon and Zeiss sitting in a tree…

First Canon rumors a 120MP DSLR camera, and we wonder why.

Also Zeiss created a list of Milvus line of lenses for both Canon and Nikon.  They look nice, but are all professional grade.  According to Zeiss the manual focus is an actual feature!

Forging our new paths

Reading the article written by Olivier Du Tre we jumped into long lasting discussion.  The article questions our need for assurance that we are doing something right.  This touches on our need for Social Media, and contact with other photographers.  This made us think about purging social media accounts.  Also this leads to being extremely selfish on the internet, with out giving voice to other photographers that we may deem worthy of our voice.  Should we share their work when we come across something that we really like?  How many of us actually do that, and not because of we expect something in return?

Switch to Manual Portfolio Reviews

This is great news coming from our friends at Switch to Manual.  It’s a portfolio review.  Here is a direct quote from their site:

“We offer several different review packages to choose from, including a free option. You choose the package that’s right for you, digitally “drop off” your portfolio with us, and we’ll personally review it.

We will make an audio recording of the full review and send a downloadable mp3 audio file back to you. You’ll hear us go over each image you send, letting you know what you did right and what didn’t work out so well. We’ll offer tips to improve the image as well as any other advice we may come up with.”

These guys know what they are talking about, and I think it would be a great experience.

Episode 65 »» Socializing Socialists

Before we get down to business and revisit social media for photographers, we cover some news and other photo tidbits …

ep65 - Socializing Socialists - miksmedia.netAdobe, Yo!

They listened to their users and have reduced their monthly subscription pricing for LR5 and Photoshop to 9.99! We discuss the changes and what this means for you!

Mmmm … Fresh Gear

Looks like the full frame NEX rumours are closer to being a sure thing. We also chat about new crazy cool lenses from Sony, which just might take smartphone photography to a new level.

Oh, Apple

During the keynote earlier this month, the Senior VP of Marketing tied the knickers of some in a knot with his comments about Apple’s latest iPhone making photography easy just for you. Aw, how sweet. You can check out the keynote here!

Punch. Also, snort.

Keeping It Social

We dive in and discuss the ins and outs of staying relevant online with your photography. It is necessary and do we all put too much stock in our online presence as opposed to being behind the lens? You know we had to bring up Facebook’s proposed changes to their TOS and more.

Bits n’ Bites

If you’re not already, will you become a creative cloud user? What are your thoughts about the proposed Facebook TOS changes? Do you think there is a strategy for staying relevant in photography both on and offline? We’d love to hear your thoughts and more!

Speaking of Socializing

You can find us online via the Twitters, Facebook, Google Plus (listen for the crickets). You can also subscribe for free via iTunes and if you have the Stitcher app, you can hit us up there as well.

Episode 46 ~ Year End Reflections, 2012

Episode 46 ~ Year End Reflections, 2012, reflections, Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, camera apps, photography, shutter time with sid and mac, podcast, yegphotoThe End Is Near

The year end, that is! We took to our mics for one last time in 2012 to discuss and reflect on what we have learned this year from having our podcast, why we still have fun recording, etc. But before we get to sitting back with some Christmas cheer induced beverages, we dive in the Instagram debate of late …

Oh No, They Didn’t!

Even though by the time this podcast hits the ol’ internets, the news will be a little old, it’s still being talked about and for good reason. Instagram (Facebook) shocked many photographers and those in and around the industry alike by revising their TOS (terms of service), which implied they would be able to sell your images to advertisers without your consent or knowledge. I know, right? We chew over what the hell they were thinking and the revisions to the revision (ha!) that have taken place due to some strong ass backlash. Have a listen and please let us know what you think about this!

Flickr, You Dead Sexy Thing

Perfect timing on Flickr’s part, but they have done something with their aging app, causing many toes to curl and even tingle.

Ooh, Growth

We reflect over our last year of podcasting and how it has changed us. ‘Nuff said, right? Please tune in and allow us to indulge in more self absorbed chatter. Sort of.

Our Internet Homes

As always, you can find us on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and of course, you can subscribe for free on iTunes!

A Couple More Notes

We can’t thank you enough for continuing to tune in to our little podcast. It means more to us than you can probably imagine. You’re all fantastic and we couldn’t do this without you.

We forgot to mention this on the show (oh, bugger), but of course, we cannot forget our wonderful friends and guests for sitting down with us for interviews and having a good ol’ photography chat! Thank you so much for participating in the show. Our brilliant and super talented guests have been:

Episode 40 ~ Fabulous At 40!

Episode 40 ~ Fabulous At 40!

Happy Birthday, Us!

Before we dive into social media, we had to celebrate a bit, as we’ve just turned 40 (Sept 26th), huzzah! Thanks to all of our listeners and supporters for tuning in, show after show. We truly couldn’t do it without your support and feedback. Hopefully the next year is even better and we’ll give you loads more content that will makes your ears and minds tingle, and having you itching to click the shutter and make some images and memories. Please keep the feedback coming, as well as any show ideas. We do the show for you all, as well as ourselves. We’re a lil’ narcissistic like that, you know!

Oh, Cheeky Canon

Of course, right after our last show, where we discussed a whole lineup of new gear, Canon announces their latest brainchild after we published the show! Have a listen as we discuss their latest body. Will it measure up? Hmmm …

Social Media Blitz

We’ve been threatening you all for a while with a long recap of my review on Colby Brown’s book, Google + For Photographers. Instead, we briefly discuss the book, and dive in a little deeper and break down some of the available social media options for photographers. Tune in and see if you agree with us and have any opinions and possibly other SM platforms we are missing! If you’re on social media, head to our Facebook and link us up so we can keep in touch with you, or leave us a comment here.

Murphy, The Stalker

Murphy’s Law has made its presence once again during the show. This is my techie plea to you: if you have any suggestions / alternatives to recording podcasts using Skype, please let us know! Drop us a comment, tweet or leave a message on G+ or Facebook. We’d ever be so happy and appreciative.

Bits ‘n Bites

Come hang out with us in our social media nests on the internets. Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, and of course, please subscribe to us for free on iTunes!

Thanks as always for tuning in, y’all! Big high fives to you!

Cheers
