Runaway Co-Host

Ah, we are missing our Mac this episode because he is away on holiday making images with his family and one of our fabulous listeners and good friend of the show, Dom. They have been tearing up the Canadian Rockies and having a great time. Thankfully one of our brothers from another mother, Antonio, from the Switch to Manual Network and Street Shots podcast, graciously accepted my begging and pleading to come on the show and fill in for Mac. Thank you, Antonio!

Inspired by episode 54 of Street Shots, we decided to take to our mics to tackle the interesting question – or perhaps more of an observation, our photo DNA. Please join us as we try to determine what exactly is our photo DNA and where it comes from.

Do you know what your photo DNA is? If not, do you think it’s important as photographers for us to figure it out? What should we be doing with this knowledge once we do? We would love for you to chime in! You can find us on Bookface or Twitter, here on the blog, and of course you can subscribe for free for more Shutter Time goodness via iTunes or Stitcher.

Huge thanks to Antonio for bringing a little New York to the show and pitch-hitting for Mac, and for being a fabulous co-host. #fantastico Please make sure you check out his work, and his podcast he co-hosts with our other brother, Tom, Street Shots! You will not be disappointed!

Another big thanks to our Mac, who upon returning home from vacation, donned his red cape and swooped in to fix the post-production hell I was finding myself in. Let’s blame user error (me), Uncle Murphy (stalker and devil), and of course, crashing software (cough, Adobe). Mac –> our hero.

You can check out Mac’s southern Alberta / Canadian Rockies adventures via Twitter! We just need to wait for him to develop his film! #filmisnotdead, right, Mac?

Thanks so much for being patient for this episode to drop, all the messages, and most of all, for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!

Our Bad.

Well, really – it’s my bad. Episode 160, rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 were recorded, however due to technical issues, I pretty much chucked the episode (ah, my solo Shutter Time debut), which was finished and cut, because I was ridiculously irritated with the tech woes. So, blame me for not having a show for a month. But mostly, blame Uncle Murphy. Cool?

Episode 160, Round 5 » The Chaps Are Back.

Thankfully Mac, who is well on his way to recovery, was ready to roll and record our latest episode. We decided to throw out the bat signal to see if Usually Dave would be up for joining me in welcoming Mac back. Like the superhero he is, the signal was answered. Besides, the topic idea was all from Dave, so it only made sense, right? Thumbprints – when making images, what exactly is your thumbprint? Not to be confused with your legacy or your footprint, but rather what drives your images to be the way that they are? A specific style, pre-and in post? Feeling? Or more? We take to the mics to figure this one out.

Absolutely Stunning

Chances are you know him and you love him. Photographer and YouTube creator, Thomas Heaton, joined us from the UK to discuss his craft, inspirations and what drives him to keep creating those incredible landscapes and deliciously entertaining videos whilst on location.

Uncle. Murphy.

Our longtime listeners are well aware of his presence and to keep things interesting, he showed up stronger than ever for episode 155 and decided to unceremoniously remove me from the show. Crazy audio woes aside, Mac and Tom kept marching on. Ah, at least I was there in spirit, right?

Rambling On

Ah, after a week of delays: injuries, home renos and Uncle Murphy, we are back with episode 140! We kept this puppy short and discuss a few topics fresh on our mind.

Switch to Manual…..Mirrorless

Our cousins down south had an amusing chat about the possibility of switching to mirrorless. Ah, we enjoyed listening to other podcasters have a good lighthearted debate! If you haven’t checked out their podcast, Street Shots, it’s most definitely worth listening to and subscribing!

F is for Failure

This is your photo shoot – you’re on your own time and this shoot is about feeding your photographic soul. Or so your hope. You have your vision, gear, accessories and everything you need for a successful shoot has been checked off the list, but the shoot doesn’t go as planned. Did you fail? Landscape photographer, Thomas Heaton, created a brilliant short film, There’s More to Landscape Photography. Many viewers have their own take on his message, but we came out of it with a strong message about passion and it made us think about how we perceive failure in photography. This film is a must see!

Episode 139 Follow-up

We quickly catch up to the last episode as we look at an example of work which might not be the reality we think it is at first glance. Thanks for the link, Antonio! We highly suggest you check out Jean Miele’s beautiful work!

Join the Convo

Do you have the new Sony mirrorless and have you had any issues with it as Mac discussed? What kind of support have you received from Sony? Have you made the switch to mirrorless or at least added such a body to your arsenal of gear? Was it the right move for you and do you have any suggestions for our cousin, Tom, from Street Shots? Maybe head on over to their site and offer some suggestions. What about failure in photography? What is your take on this and how do you feel about your shoots which do not work out as planned? Please chime in as we’d love to hear your thoughts! You can find us Bookface and Twitter! You can also subscribe free via iTunes and Stitcher.

Huge shout out for the interaction and comments and notes – it’s so appreciated!  We are starting to catch up with our replies. Thanks as always for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!

Reunited and It Feels So Good

Ah, Mac and Dom are together again.  The photo bromance of the year is brewing once again and this time, I’m joining them for a good ol’ fashioned chat about gear and other photo goodness. Uncle Murphy tried like hell to stop us, but we made it through the recording! Huzzah!

Workflow … Revisited. Again.

Ah, the never ending quest to simplify one’s workflow never seems to end. Mac updates us on his new found fling with Capture One. Tune in to see how it’s going and what he likes about it!

Ansel, Is That You?

Everyone is talking about the intriguing photography job posting (now closed) from the Department of Interior. We quickly dish on it, but pretty much are just waiting to see who snags this highly coveted position.

Mmmm … Gear

With all the gear chat, rumours, hints of mirrorless this and medium format that, Dom suggested we get together to discuss some of the rumours and whether or not these anticipated announcements of new bodies are really necessary. Please tune in as we have a casual chat about the state of our gear, updates, firmware and more!

Thanks again to Dom for the topic suggestion, chat and great time! Please make sure to take a moment and check out his beautiful work!

Cheers, y’all!
