You know him. You love him. He’s back! Marking his 3rd (4th?) appearance with us, Antonio M. Rosario is back for more Shutter Time lovin’.  He risked his beauty sleep for us as we kept him up way past his bedtime . We think he’s beautiful without the extra zzzzzzs anyway!

Awards. Contests. Marketing? What Gives?

We received a great topic suggestion from one of our listeners, Linda, and it was good timing because contests and photography related awards were already on our minds, so we asked Antonio to join us and the three of us took to the mics to figure this out and take it one step further. Please join us as we discuss the validity of photography awards, contests and where marketing fits in!

Join the Convo

What are your thoughts about the contests based solely on popularity where you can often sway the vote? Is this hidden marketing? What about some of the other contests like the heavy hitters, such as National Geo? What can winning a contest do for your career? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this one! You can keep the conversation flowing by joining us via Bookface (Mac) and on Twitter and of course, this blog. You can also subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher.

Thanks to Linda for the topic suggestion! If you have any topic suggestions, please drop us a note. Another big thanks to our pal, Antonio, for coming on the show! Please take a moment to check out his work if you have yet to do so! We’re looking forward to another mashup between STWSM and STM! Speaking of Street Shots – if you missed our first mashup with Tom and Antonio, please check out episode 130! Could I be using any more exclamation points in this blog post? Didn’t think so.

Thanks as always for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!

Can’t Stop Him

Our very good pal, Mark Reierson, agreed to come on over and join us for another good ol’ fashioned photography discussion. This marks his third appearance on the show and we already want him back for more. We catch up with Mark and learn what’s he has been up to before we dive in with our main chat.

Finding Your Way

As a continuation from episode 131, we scratch the surface of Mac’s lingering question of realizing your own vision for creating art and making images.  Please join us as we three souls discuss this and more!

He’s Baaaaaack

It’s been several weeks and we missed him too much, so we convinced our good pal, Dom, to visit us again as we sort out all the excitement from the Fuji camp.

We Shoot Fuji Podcast

Our friend, Marco Larousse, and his podcast co-host, Scott Bourne, made a special announcement on episode 17. If you’re a fan of the show, make sure to listen to the episode if you haven’t already for the full update. We wish them the best of luck as they move their show in a new direction with Photofocus.

Those Defining Photos

We followed up from episode 125 about the defining images we made in 2015 as well as those made from others which impacted us in some fashion throughout the year.

F is for Fuji

It’s Fuji time again. But this time, let’s blame Fujifilm directly for getting us all riled up. Haha. The rumours have been circulating for 3.5 years … true story. Then it was confirmed by Fujifilm they would be making some heavy announcements on January 15th as they celebrated their 5 years of their X Series lineup of bodies and lenses alike. Then they started to tease us with a countdown clock on the X-Pro 1 site,  Finally the clock struck and the live stream event took place. 60 official X Photographers around the globe travelled to Tokyo to partake in the celebrations.

Please join us as we roundup the latest announcements from Fujifilm, the X-Pro 2, XF 100-400mm ƒ4.5-5.6 and more!

Make sure to check out all the goodness – news, updates, reviews, videos and more on twitter:  We will also link up at the end of the post some of the hands on reviews that were coming in as the live event was going on.

Are you a current X shooter? If so, what do you think of the announcement and latest soon-to-be released gear? Did the X-Pro 2 or one of the other bodies grab your attention? If you’re not sporting the Fuji brand now, are you considering making the switch? What about other mirrorless brands – which ones are on your radar if at all? We’d still love to hear about your defining photographs and/or moments of 2015. You can find us on here on the blog, BookFace or Twitter. Of course you can subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher.

Thanks again to Dominick for joining us again tonight. Please make sure to check out his work on Flickr and 500px!

Thanks for tuning in and making it this far in this Fuji-heavy episode. Much appreciated as always!

Cheers, y’all!

Reunited and It Feels So Good

Ah, Mac and Dom are together again.  The photo bromance of the year is brewing once again and this time, I’m joining them for a good ol’ fashioned chat about gear and other photo goodness. Uncle Murphy tried like hell to stop us, but we made it through the recording! Huzzah!

Workflow … Revisited. Again.

Ah, the never ending quest to simplify one’s workflow never seems to end. Mac updates us on his new found fling with Capture One. Tune in to see how it’s going and what he likes about it!

Ansel, Is That You?

Everyone is talking about the intriguing photography job posting (now closed) from the Department of Interior. We quickly dish on it, but pretty much are just waiting to see who snags this highly coveted position.

Mmmm … Gear

With all the gear chat, rumours, hints of mirrorless this and medium format that, Dom suggested we get together to discuss some of the rumours and whether or not these anticipated announcements of new bodies are really necessary. Please tune in as we have a casual chat about the state of our gear, updates, firmware and more!

Thanks again to Dom for the topic suggestion, chat and great time! Please make sure to take a moment and check out his beautiful work!

We’d love to hear your thoughts about medium format bodies and whatever is on your photographic minds! You can find us via Twitter and Bookface! You can also subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher!

Thanks as always for tuning in and sticking with us for another year! Y’all are top notch! Happy holidays and Happy New Year from us at Shutter Time! Rum and eggnog for everybody!

Cheers, y’all!

The Canadian Portraitist Revisited

We brought back one of our previous guests, Calgary photographer Mark Reierson, to be a guest co-host for the night. Before we dive straight in with our main topic of the night, we took a few moments to catch up with Mark.  Have a listen and find out what he’s been up to!

The Face of the Story – Breaking News Photography

As humans, we often think about historical events and the impact these events have had on our world — our society and ourselves. As photographers, we can take it a step further and wonder why a particular image or a series of images was chosen to visually represent an event. A single image has the power to become the face of history, triumph and far too many times, tragedy. Why?

Many of these well known photographs and the photographers who made them have a collection of awards and other distinctions, including the Pulitzer Prize for one of the current (or former) photography categories. It’s often one or two photos, which remain in our minds – perhaps forever, and it led us to wonder what makes a photograph so powerful it has become the chosen one? We took to our mics to figure this out in an attempt to satisfy our curiosity.

Join the Convo

When you think of the breaking news events in our world, do you look to the photography to help tell the story or skip right to the audio, video and/or text ? Are there any images burned in your brain where they become the image you think of first when it comes to remembering such events? What do you think makes an image so powerful? We’d love to hear your take on this. You can find us on Bookface and Twitter as well as this site. You can also subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher! Thanks to the comments and continued interaction, our friends. Always welcomed and very much appreciated!

Thanks again to Mark for coming back on the show! Please make sure you take a moment or two (or many!) and check out his work. You can also order his book via Blurb here!

Thanks for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!
