Episode 159 »» Brand Whoring with Dave SzweduikYou Asked. Critique Revisited.

We answer an interesting question from our Bookface page about critique, so we answered the question with a little help from Dave, all the while channeling our pals, Olaf and Antonio.

Yup. We Said That.

And hell, yes, we went there. Brand whoring. It needed to be addressed, so we decided to bring out wonderfully talented friend of the show, Dave “Swizzbob” Szweduik, back for another chat. Much like the tourism orgs we have discussed in the past, we started to wonder if not only are we doing the brands a huge free service when we heavily pimp our images out on social media, tagging said brands, and more importantly, are we doing ourselves a disservice by interrupting the art of arting? You decide.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the show and how you feel about focusing so much on the brands. Is there a healthy balance to stay true to your artistic vision as well as soliciting brands, should that be your intent? Please chime in by commenting on the blog (we will catch up on comments, promise), or leaving a comment on Bookface or Twitter. As always, you can subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher!

Big thanks to Swizzbob for coming back on the show once again. We so enjoy sending out the bat signal to see if he will answer and he never lets us down! Do yourselves a favour and check out his fantastic tech podcast, digitalSoup, and his photography  work.

Thanks to everyone for tuning in and for the Bookface and Twitter questions!

Cheers, y’all!

He’s Baaaaack …

You know him. You still love him. One of our brothers from another mother, the outspoken half of the Street Shots podcast, Antonio M. Rosario, joins us once again for another fun episode. Side note: we MISS you, Tom.

Thanks to a PetaPixel article, we continue the conversation on killing street photography and ask ourselves if we are all guilty of this crime. Say it isn’t so!

Killing street photography – is this continued chatter about the slaughter of a genre many of us love taking it too far? If so, what can we as an industry do about it? If not, please tell us why you think there is really only a bark, but very little bite to this popular opinion. We’d love to hear your thoughts! Please chime in on our blog, Twitter and Bookface. As always, you can subscribe for free via iTunes and Stitcher!

The Great Return  | #changetheconversation

It’s been just over a year and we were finally able to bring back our pal and good friend to the show, incredible photographer, Olaf Sztaba! He penned a couple of great articles on his thoughts on the social media/photo communities that had some scratching their heads about their own involvement in the online photo industry. Consider it a serendipitous moment if you will, as Mac and I were discussing the very same thing off the air, so we knew Olaf was meant to appear on this episode! Please join us as we take the mics to discuss these very topics and also find out what Olaf is up to today.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the show and the articles if you’ve had the change to read them. Has your online involvement ever impacted your own process of making images? We would love to hear about it – the good and the bad, if any. You can find us at Bookface or Twitter! Of course, you can subscribe for free at iTunes or check us out at Stitcher.

Huge thanks to Olaf for coming back on the show! Please make sure to check out his work and the two articles (links at the bottom of the post).

Thanks for tuning in!

Cheers, y’all!

Absolutely Stunning

Chances are you know him and you love him. Photographer and YouTube creator, Thomas Heaton, joined us from the UK to discuss his craft, inspirations and what drives him to keep creating those incredible landscapes and deliciously entertaining videos whilst on location.

Uncle. Murphy.

Our longtime listeners are well aware of his presence and to keep things interesting, he showed up stronger than ever for episode 155 and decided to unceremoniously remove me from the show. Crazy audio woes aside, Mac and Tom kept marching on. Ah, at least I was there in spirit, right?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the show (audio woes aside, folks, haha). Are there any questions you have for Thomas? If so, please drop us a note as we would love to have him back on the show to discuss more! Do you travel for your photography? If so, where have you been and where do you plan to go? Please chime in and join the convo. You can find us on Twitter and Bookface and here on the blog. Of course you can subscribe for free via iTunes or Stitcher!

Thanks again to Thomas Heaton for joining us on the show! If you haven’t checked out his work yet, please do so!

Thanks for tuning in, folks!

Cheers, y’all!

You Can’t Stop Him

He answered the bat signal and came back for another Shutter Time chat. Though this time I think our pal, Dave “Batman” Szweduik, got a little more than he bargained for when he suddenly found himself as a referee in the ring!

In This Corner

It’s been a while since the gloves came off, and the topic of photography projects vs. assignments somehow sparked a spicy debate between us. Thankfully we had a voice a reason in the room, our good mate, Dave. Please join us as we take to the mics to figure out the difference and importance between the two.

Do you feel there is a difference between photography projects and assignments or do you find it just doesn’t matter? Have you been involved in any assignments or projects and if so, did you find one to be more beneficial over the other? You can find us on Twitter and Bookface and of course, you can subscribe for free on iTunes and Stitcher!
