Episode 117 »» Forging new paths

Only dust and windShutter Time goes family

So today episode was recorded with my lovely wife, because Sid was abducted by aliens.  Hopefully Sid will be back on the next exciting episode of Shutter Time.

Canon and Zeiss sitting in a tree…

First Canon rumors a 120MP DSLR camera, and we wonder why.

Also Zeiss created a list of Milvus line of lenses for both Canon and Nikon.  They look nice, but are all professional grade.  According to Zeiss the manual focus is an actual feature!

Forging our new paths

Reading the article written by Olivier Du Tre we jumped into long lasting discussion.  The article questions our need for assurance that we are doing something right.  This touches on our need for Social Media, and contact with other photographers.  This made us think about purging social media accounts.  Also this leads to being extremely selfish on the internet, with out giving voice to other photographers that we may deem worthy of our voice.  Should we share their work when we come across something that we really like?  How many of us actually do that, and not because of we expect something in return?

Switch to Manual Portfolio Reviews

This is great news coming from our friends at Switch to Manual.  It’s a portfolio review.  Here is a direct quote from their site:

“We offer several different review packages to choose from, including a free option. You choose the package that’s right for you, digitally “drop off” your portfolio with us, and we’ll personally review it.

We will make an audio recording of the full review and send a downloadable mp3 audio file back to you. You’ll hear us go over each image you send, letting you know what you did right and what didn’t work out so well. We’ll offer tips to improve the image as well as any other advice we may come up with.”

These guys know what they are talking about, and I think it would be a great experience.

Episode 115 »» The Lonely Owl

Lonely OwlAlone

I’m all alone today.  Sid could not record, because of evildoers.  She is very sorry, and by listening to the show, I’m too.  It’s hard to do unscripted show.  Yikes.

IR… like really Fuji??

Fuji announced a brand new camera… or a old camera with stuff removed and price jacked up.  It’s a new Fuji X-T1 IR.  Everything is the same, except the infra-red filter is removed.  It would be nice if the actual body was red or something.  Sorry it makes no sense.

Oh Mamamiya!!!

So I’m a traitor, and a masochist.  Just listen to the show and be amazed at my marooniness 🙂

Episode 113 »» Pictures, Always Pictures

Morning dew

It’s not Fuji time

Today we had a chat on the new DXO One camera… which to Sid it looks like a stamp.  Also a new Panasonic camera, which allows to choose focus points after the picture is taken.  What will they think of next 🙂

Is there always a picture?

We try to answer a question: “is there always an image to be made?”, and we fail miserably.  Lets put it this one, at the end of the show we both switch our views, and end up more confused.

Episode 88 »» Are You A Photographer?

Episode 88 »» Are You A Photographer?, shutter time with sid and mac podcast, Join us as we take a stab at defining photographers, inspired by an article @ oopoomoo. We also cover the Lens Rental Canada news, insurance woes & more!

No More Renting Lenses, Eh?

So Lens Rentals Canada is done.  The only big Canadian lens rental company goes away..far away.  Yep… no more, at least for now. I think we also lost any potential sponsorship for Borrow Lenses…. I guess I will never figure out when to shut up 🙂  Here is the news via PetaPixel…. Lens Rentals in Canada

Insurance Woes

Sid gets an interesting news about her gear insurance and she is looking for some tips.  It sounds like her whole set-up went way down south.  Any suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Sensor Stuff

We take a moment or two to bring up the amusing video by Zack Arias on sensor size. He definitely gets the job done with a good dose of humour.

Defining Photographers

Well I sort of go off the deep end discussing this with Sid.  The article by our Alberta friends at oopoomoo sparked something in us and I vehemently disagree… that’s all that can be said about that. Have a listen as Sid and I try to figure this one out.

We’d love to hear what your thoughts are on these topics! What do you think a photographer is? Someone learning and working on their craft, a master at their craft or someone who picks up a camera? Has it always been this way? Thanks to oopoomoo for giving us all something to think about! If you rent from Lens Rentals Canada, what is your plan B now? Keep joining in and head to our Facebook, Twitter and G+ to keep the conversation flowing! As always, you can subscribe for free via iTunes!

Thanks for tuning in.

Episode 67 »» The Death of DSLRs

ep67, shutter time with sid and mac, yegphoto, DSLR death, discussion, podcastRumours Swirling

More and more news about the new FujiFilm X-E2 camera are coming out… even the price at 989 euro.  The most shocking rumour about Fuji, is that X-Pro2 will never be made. X-Pro1 is going to be the last in it’s line.  It’s a sad day I tell you, but again these are far fetched speculations.  Sony on the other hand has two full frame mirror less cameras in the works.  A7, a 24mp wonder, and A7r a 36mp beast…. Nikon D800 anyone? 🙂  Both these cameras will have existing NEX E-Mount, but the big problem is that the current line up of lenses will not work very well with the full frame configurations.  So expecting new lenses from Sony…

LOL’ed

Sid is having issues with Adobe CC…. apparently her serial number from a boxed version of Photoshop is illegal… or something to that effect.  On top of that Adobe gets hacked and Sid goes on a rampage of changing all of her accounts…. talk about wasting somebody’s time.  I think it’s time to send Adobe a bill.

Photofocus, a website run by none other than Scott Bourne, had a guest post about creating bokeh in photoshop.  Oh what a dissapoitment.  Apparently some people are still confused what bokeh is.  So here you go, if you want to waste 8 min of your life: http://photofocus.com/2013/10/05/create-custom-bokeh-in-photoshop/.  I think this can be done by spitting on your lens… easy.

Are DLSRs a Dying Breed?

Well we tried to answer that question, and Mac thinks that with in 5 years they will be mostly extinct.  Mirror mirror on the wall…. hell who needs a mirror!  Very lively discussion on that topic, and we would love to hear your comments.
